Event Description

Join the San Antonio chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for a screening of the award-winning documentary Miss Representation at San Antonio College's Longwith Radio Television Film building.

Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Miss Representation explores how women and girls are portrayed in the media, and how those portrayals affect the lives of females. The film features interviews with teenage girls and professional women including journalists, entertainers and politicians (Condoleezza Rice, Margaret Cho, Nancy Pelosi, Rosario Dawson, Katie Couric and Lisa Ling, to name a few).

Miss Representation also reveals interesting statistics and facts that will make you, as a journalist, analyze how you portray women in your own media. A short discussion will follow the 90-minute film. The screening, which falls on the International Day of the Girl, is free, with a $5 suggested donation for non-SPJ members and non-students. Doors open at 6 p.m., movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Click here to join SPJ.

Longwith is on the northeast corner of the campus, at Courtland and Main. Parking is on either side of the building: http://www.alamo.edu/uploadedFiles/SAC/Website_Assets/PDFs/map%205_2011.pdf
